Tangerang, December 7, 2025 - The massive floods and landslides that struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra from late November to early December 2025 have caused extensive destruction. Many houses were destroyed, roads were cut off, and thousands of residents were forced to evacuate.
The latest data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reports that hundreds of people have died, hundreds are still missing, and many residents are injured. Tens of thousands of houses, schools, hospitals, and bridges were severely damaged.
A nurse in Aceh, Nurhayati, said that conditions at the hospital are extremely difficult and medical personnel are overwhelmed handling the victims:
“Everything is limited. Many medical tools are damaged and we lack medicines.
The situation is really tough.”
A volunteer doctor, Dr. Chik M. Iqbal, also explained that many villages remain isolated because roads and bridges were destroyed, making aid difficult to deliver:
“Many areas still cannot be reached. We need time and access to help more people.”
The government stated that the recovery process will require a long period of time. In the upcoming months, the main focus will be repairing roads, bridges, public facilities, and ensuring that aid reaches all affected areas. If rehabilitation is delayed and heavy rain continues, the risk of further disasters or health crises may increase.
For this reason, logistical support, medical supplies, clean water, and temporary housing will continue to be essential needs for the residents. Full recovery is expected to take a long time and will require cooperation from all parties (the government, volunteers, and the community).
