What makes them want to “Kabur”? Many find it difficult to find work, the price of necessities is getting more expensive, and there is a lack of support for young people to develop. Hence, many of them aspire to study or work abroad, whether in Japan, Korea, Australia or other countries.
This phenomenon started to go viral around early 2025 and was talked about on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram. Even so, there are also those who say that this desire to “Kabur” is considered not loving the country. But according to some public figures, that doesn't mean they're not nationalistic. In fact, if they return to Indonesia with new knowledge and experience, they can help build this country too.
The #KaburAjaDulu phenomenon actually shows that many young people need change and feel unheard. This is an important signal for the government and society to create an environment that is more supportive, fair, and makes young people feel at home to keep working in the country.
