Nearly 1 Million Vehicles Leave Greater Jakarta Ahead of Christmas 2025

 

    Tangerang, December 24, 2025 — PT Jasa Marga reported that a total of 994,549 vehicles left the Greater Jakarta area (Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi / Jabotabek) during the Christmas homecoming period from H-7 to H-2 before Christmas 2025. The traffic volume was recorded from 18 December 2025 at 06.00 a.m. until 24 December 2025 at 06.00 a.m.

    The data was collected from four main toll gates, namely Cikupa Gate (towards Merak), Ciawi Gate (towards Puncak), Cikampek Utama Gate (towards Trans-Java), and Kalihurip Utama Gate (towards Bandung). The total number of vehicles exiting Jabotabek represented an increase of approximately 12.1 percent compared to normal daily traffic.

    According to Jasa Marga President Director Rivan A. Purwantono, the rise in traffic volume had been observed several days prior, with a significant increase in the number of vehicles exiting through the four main toll gates between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning. He stated that Jasa Marga continues to coordinate with the police and related agencies regarding potential traffic-management measures.

    Separately, transportation authorities projected that the peak of the Christmas and New Year homecoming flow would occur on 24 December, as millions of people were expected to travel out of town ahead of the year-end holiday period. The projection was based on traffic-movement analysis over the past several days.

    In addition, early monitoring from police and transportation departments indicated a shift in travel patterns, with some intercity bus operators reportedly experiencing a decline in passenger numbers, possibly due to more travelers choosing to use private vehicles during the long-holiday period.
