Indonesia Affirms OECD Accession Will Not Change Its Stance on Israel

Tangerang, December 11, 2025 — The Indonesian government has reaffirmed that its plan to accede to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will not alter the country’s foreign policy stance toward Israel. The statement was delivered by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in Jakarta.

Airlangga emphasized that Indonesia’s position in supporting Palestine remains consistent, even as the country proceeds with the OECD accession process.

“The President has clearly stated in his speech at the United Nations that Indonesia’s position will not change as long as Palestine has not been recognized as a sovereign state,” Airlangga said, as quoted by ANTARA News.

According to Airlangga, the OECD accession process focuses on economic cooperation and structural reforms rather than foreign policy considerations. He explained that the government is currently working to fulfill the technical requirements necessary for full membership in the organization.

Observers noted that Indonesia’s approach reflects its effort to balance participation in global economic forums with long-standing foreign policy principles. OECD membership is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s role in international economic discussions without compromising its diplomatic stance.

In addition, the government stressed that Indonesia’s engagement with the OECD is part of a broader strategy to improve governance standards, transparency, and economic competitiveness. Officials believe that participation in the organization will support domestic reforms and policy improvements while allowing Indonesia to remain consistent with its long-standing diplomatic values.
