Government Urges Public to Stay Alert Amid Extreme Weather

Tangerang, December 26, 2025 — The Indonesian government has urged the public to remain cautious of extreme weather conditions ahead of the New Year, particularly on Friday, December 26, 2025. The advisory was issued by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Menko PMK) following forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicting heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds across several regions of Indonesia.

In an official statement, the Menko PMK spokesperson emphasized that residents in flood-prone, landslide-prone, and tree-fall risk areas should increase their vigilance. "We urge citizens to monitor weather updates regularly, avoid travel in vulnerable areas, and prepare mitigation measures in case of hydrometeorological hazards," the spokesperson said.

BMKG added that the extreme weather pattern is driven by a combination of tropical cyclones in the Indian Ocean and low-pressure systems affecting parts of Indonesia. Regions expected to be most affected include Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, West Java, and Central Java.

In response, several local disaster management agencies (BPBD) have deployed emergency teams to ensure preparedness for potential flooding and landslides. The public is also advised to avoid high-risk outdoor activities, including travel and recreational plans in vulnerable areas during heavy rainfall.

Past incidents during the Christmas and New Year period have shown that extreme weather can cause material damage and casualties. Coordinated efforts between central and local governments, as well as community participation, are key to reducing disaster risks.

Through this official advisory, the government hopes that citizens will remain safe and vigilant, while still being able to enjoy the year-end holidays.
