Tangerang, December 14, 2025 — The Indonesian government has provided free internet access to schools affected by floods and landslides in North Sumatra to ensure that teaching and learning activities can continue despite damage to local infrastructure.
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid stated that the assistance is part of the government’s humanitarian support for the education sector.
“We hope this connectivity assistance can support digital learning in line with the President’s directives,” Meutya Hafid said in an official statement.
The program is implemented in collaboration with internet service provider MyRepublic, which has installed connections with speeds of up to 500 Mbps at six affected schools for a period of one year. The access is expected to help students and teachers continue online learning and access digital educational resources that were disrupted by the disaster.
Education observers noted that the initiative highlights the importance of digital connectivity as part of post-disaster recovery efforts, particularly in maintaining the continuity of education in affected regions.
