Aceh Barat Government Designates Eight New Cultural Heritage Sites

 

Tangerang, October 12, 2025 — The Government of Aceh Barat Regency has designated eight new sites as cultural heritage objects throughout 2025. This initiative is part of the local government’s efforts to preserve historical heritage and strengthen the region’s cultural identity.

The designation of the eight new cultural heritage sites was carried out by the Aceh Barat Education and Culture Office in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB) after a series of studies and field verifications of several historical sites in the region.

Head of the Education and Culture Office of Aceh Barat, Kartika Eka Sari, explained that the designation took place in Meulaboh in early October 2025. “Cultural preservation is not only about protecting historical objects but also safeguarding the values and identity contained within them,” she said in Meulaboh on Saturday (October 12, 2025).

Meanwhile, the Chairman of TACB Aceh Barat, Rahmad Syah Putra, stated that this step reflects the local government’s commitment to protecting historical legacies. He also mentioned that the government is preparing a regional museum and a cultural encyclopedia to enhance cultural education among the younger generation.

This preservation effort is expected to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting cultural heritage while also creating new opportunities for the development of history-based tourism in Aceh Barat.
