Same-Sex Couple in Javanese Traditional Attire Draws Public Attention

Tangerang, July 10, 2025 — A video showing two men wearing traditional Javanese attire has gone viral on social media. The pair is seen standing side by side in beskap, blangkon, and batik cloth, posing for photos with several people believed to be their family members.

The video has been viewed millions of times and has sparked various reactions from the public. Some people expressed support for the couple’s courage and the acceptance shown by their families, while others criticized it as being against social, cultural, and religious values.

Among the supportive comments, one user wrote:

“Love is love. Why can’t we just let people be happy?”

Another comment said:

“It’s heartwarming to see a family that continues to support their child, no matter what.”

However, not all responses were positive. One user commented:

“This is inappropriate. Wearing traditional attire for something

like this is disrespectful to the culture.”

Another wrote:

“Our culture and religion do not allow this.

It sets a bad example for the younger generation.”

One of the individuals featured in the video later clarified that the occasion was not a wedding, but a family photo session. He also explained that both families support their relationship.

This incident has reignited public discussions on social media regarding personal identity, cultural expression, and how Indonesian society views diversity.
